My parents unknowingly taught my sister and I that the meaning of life was to experience everything that was available to us. Out of this concept, they unknowingly opened me up to way more than they expected. I love to travel to unique places, try unique types of food, and see, travel to, and experience all the crazy things that life has to offer.
Although, when I told my parents that this is what they taught us, they were shocked and said that they didn’t actually mean for us to try, do, see, or eat many of the things we have!
So here are the basic facts about me: I’m a middle-aged, married, opinionated woman with two crazy dogs which are the closest to children that I would ever want! In my younger years I was a rebellious punk (and I am still at heart), that oddly led me to join the Canadian military as one of the first women Armoured Officers. I know that sounds conservative, but to me it was the ultimate “F U” to society’s expectations, and to prove to a male-dominated society, that women could do anything men could do given a chance. In my 20’s I met my husband while on a one-day road trip with friends to see a band in Seattle. We instantly connected over music, travel, and our views of life. Ever since then, we continually try to see live shows, musicians, and travel as often as possible. We love all genres, which often confuses many of the people around us due to our eclectic enjoyments. I also have some amazing friends who are open to tag along for many of the ideas we come up with!
The reason I decided to finally do this blog is due to my friends constant encouragement to pass along some of my likes, dislikes and opinions. Who knows why any of you want to know these, but I decided I will share them anyway!
My other reason for this blog was due to a serious car accident from a few years ago. I have been recovering from painful injuries, and serious concussion issues, which flipped my life upside down. I am now able to reflect on my life and how lucky I’ve been which reminds me that life is too short to not do the things you’ve wanted to! So for me this is my way to share my cranky opinions with all of you. You will learn more about my transition from this horrible day throughout my unique writings.
I assume the first question many of you would have would be “Why the name?”. Well, I thought of many other boring ones, and when I sat down with my husband, he said, well, those are fine, but kinda boring. Why don’t you do something like “Musings of a Drunk Raccoon?” … pause pause pause, damn him, I loved it and why couldn’t I have thought of that? I tried to convince him that maybe he should be doing his own blog, and not me, but he just said no, he’s not dumb enough to commit to something like this. So, I guess that doesn’t explain the title.
Well, let’s just say that you can be pretty much guaranteed that most of the blog write-ups will have been done after a few glasses of vino! Yup, I’m a self declared wino! A friend then suggested “ramblings” instead of “musings” which I thought was perfect, as the word “musing” made me feel like I would have to write about more intellectual concepts than I planned to. The rest is because I tend to ramble on about odd ideas or views. Also, due to my concussions, they are definitely not linear thoughts. My poor husband needs to try to figure out the thought processes behind my sudden bursts of ideas. And the raccoon … well, they have always been one of my favourite animals. They are night creatures, and surly, just like me! Then I had the image of a drunken raccoon and realized, wow that is me!
So, for those of you brave enough to read and follow my blog, or whatever social media tangents this goes on, I sincerely thank you! Please find your other strange friends and let them also know to follow me!
